
Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Yerapetritsis said on Wednesday that Jordan is a pivotal country for stability in the region.
Yerapetretis added, during a press conference, that his country appreciates the tireless work that Jordan is doing towards the stability of the Middle East.
He noted that Greece will continue to cooperate closely with Jordan to achieve a prosperous and contributing region.
He noted that the tripartite meeting held between Jordan, Greece and Cyprus emphasized the importance of relations between the countries with regard to peace, stability and economic recovery, pointing out that the partnership is built on a shared understanding of the challenges and a common vision between the countries.
The countries discussed local, regional and international issues, according to the Greek Foreign Minister, who stressed the importance of ensuring that settlers do not attack Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and that there is a guarantee of stability in the situation there.
He stressed the importance of the Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Regarding the Gaza Strip, Yerapetritis stressed the need for a direct improvement in the humanitarian situation, emphasizing the importance of a political horizon for the Palestinian people and the continuation of discussions leading to a two-state solution.
Regarding the Iran war, Yerapetretis stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and ensuring the protection of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that it is of utmost importance.
He said that Greece is ready to participate in appropriate arrangements to ensure freedom of navigation.
He added that Greece welcomed the decision to hold direct talks between Lebanon and Israel to reach a quick agreement between the two countries.
Regarding Syria, the Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s support for a unified Syria, regardless of ethnic backgrounds, stressing that there should be a political authority that represents all ethnicities and cultural and religious backgrounds in the country.
