Safadi and Schweitzer discuss preparations for the Arab-European ministerial meeting in Jordan during June

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi received the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Schweica, on Thursday.
They discussed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the Kingdom and the European Union, mechanisms to expand cooperation in various fields, in addition to developments in the region and efforts to achieve security and stability.
Safadi and Schweitz reviewed the latest developments related to the Jordanian-European Investment Conference scheduled to be held in the Kingdom before the end of this year, and the ongoing preparations for the Arab-European Ministerial Meeting that the Kingdom will host next June.
Safadi and Schweitzer discussed regional developments and efforts aimed at ending the dangerous escalation in the region. Safadi stressed the need for a solution between the United States and Iran that restores security and stability to the region on a basis that addresses all the root causes of the tension.
They also discussed the situation in Lebanon, where Safadi stressed the need to consolidate the ceasefire and support the Lebanese government in its efforts to impose its sovereignty over all Lebanese territory and to confine weapons to the hands of the state.
The two sides also discussed the dangerous developments in the occupied Palestinian territories. Safadi stressed the need to stabilize Gaza, ensure the unimpeded and sustained delivery of aid, and halt illegal Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank, including settlement activity, settler violence, land confiscation, and attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
During the meeting, the situation in Syria was discussed, and Safadi and Schweitz stressed the importance of Syria’s stability and security, and supporting the Syrian government in the reconstruction process.
Safadi and Schweitzer discussed cooperation in ensuring the continuation of international support for Syrian refugees in order to meet their needs, in addition to cooperation in creating conditions that would allow their voluntary return to their homeland.
Safadi appreciated the support provided by the European Union to the Kingdom.
Safadi and Schweitzer affirmed the continuation of work to develop the Jordanian-European partnership and enhance cooperation, in a way that serves the interests of both sides and contributes to consolidating security and stability in the region.
